The Universal Outreach for Women Empowerment Initiative (UNOWEMI) has distributed clothing, rice, and cash gift to 100 widows, indigents people in the state as part of Christmas activity.
Mrs Abigail Eze-Iheukwumere, the Chief Executive Officer of the initiative, led the distribution of the items, on Saturday, during a special church service at Universal Christ Ministry of All Nations in Abakaliki.
Eze-Iheukwumere also an Evangelist, said the palliatives was supported by World Mission Foundation, led by the President, Ambassador Anthony Chima and Chief Hyacinth Ikpor of State Chairman, Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB)
She said the exercise was driven out of passion and experience while carrying out her duty.
She added that the Programme was also to give the people a sense of belonging.
“We have being able to fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ and also encourage them with word of God.
“The foundation has being helpful, especially in the event today with other supports from individuals.
“In the course of my duty, i had seen the plight of people and i taught of doing something that will touch and impact in lives of the downtrodden through skills and empower them to start-up business,” Eze-Iheukwumere said.
She stated that the NGO had being reaching out to people since 2017 but was officially established 2019 and currently operating in four local government areas of the state.
Rev. Scamb Nwokolo, the Chairman of UNOWEMI and General Overseer, universal christ ministry of all nations said widows experienced economic and other social challenges.
Nwokolo, the cleric said that the essence of the empowerment embarked upon was following affection towards the downtrodden.
He said that the distribution was to encourage and support them to move forward.
“We encouraged them not to give up but anchor their life to God in spite of challenges for sustainance and betterment of their lives,” Nwokolo said.
Mr Hyacinth Ikpor, the UBEB Chairman, represented by Mrs Catherine Otu, Public Relations Officer of the board, advised the widows to abide and anchor their faith in God.
Mrs Blessing Offorbuike, Chairperson of the Widows in the church, thanked the organisers for supporting widows and less privilege in the society.
Mrs Margaret Alo, a Widow and beneficiary , while expressing satisfaction over activity of the NGO, commended them and other supporters of the initiative, for the gesture .
Another Widow and Beneficiary, Mrs Roseline Chima, appreciated the groups for encouraging the downtrodden and wished it would be sustained.
The event featured distribution of wrappers, cash gift and rice to widows and indigents persons.
