Governor David Umahi’s directive that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) use the Pa Ngele Oruta stadium, Abakaliki for its presidential rally has been described as the height of opposition tolerance.
The Ebonyi Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Charles Akpu-Enika made the assertion in Abakaliki.
Akpu-Enika said that the access given to the PDP to use the stadium on January 26 at no cost, shows that the governor plays ‘politics without bitterness’ and has a ‘large heart’.
“I have received the directive of the governor on the issue and will implement it to the latter.
“The governor recently gave the same access to the Labour party for its presidential rally but it failed to hold.
“The stadium had been booked for an event on the said date and when the rally failed to hold, we missed the revenue that was supposed to accrue from it.
“The access presently given the PDP lends credence to Umahi’s stance that he is the father of all in the state.
He described Umahi as a history breaker who had through this policies, made the state a place where all strata of persons thrive.
“Umahi is the first incumbent governor since 1999 to allow the opposition use the stadium for its activities.
“This should make the opposition reciprocate his friendliness and cease the unwarranted aspersions cast on him.
“It is a fact that he had changed the state’s narratives and presently needs positive criticism to enhance governance.
