Rivers State under Fubara aligns with NYSC scheme of entrenching accountability in governance

The Rivers State Government has reiterated its commitment to align with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme of entrenching accountability in governance.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman, NYSC Rivers State Governing Board, Dr Tammy Danagogo said this on Saturday during the flag-off, of the 2023 NYSC/ Corps Employers workshop held at the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

Danagogo said that the state government under Governor Siminalayi Fubara places great emphasis on accountability in governance.

The SSG represented at the event by the Director of Administration in his office, Mrs. Wealth Inko-Tariah said that the NYSC scheme as a brand, is noted for the best standard practices in their programmes implementation.

“NYSC is thus worthy to be emulated in achieving good governance for the people,”

The Director General (DG) of the NYSC, Brig Gen YD Ahmed in a keynote address, charged corps employers to pay detailed attention to issues of welfare and security of the corps members posted to them.

“This is to engender trust and confidence in them especially, as they are serving in states other than their states of origin.

Gen. Ahmed, represented by Mr Sanusi Sylvester Mayomi decried a situation where some unscrupulous corps employers collude with corps members not to serve in places they are posted to.

“This is a gross disservice to the nation”

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr George Mfongang described the timing of the workshop as apt and timely, urging corps employers and the workshop participants to deliberate diligently to achieve intended results.

“I urge you to come up with ideas and suggestions that will reposition the scheme to make her become a robust, dynamic, efficient and effective organisation.

“I appreciate the state government for the attention and support to the scheme and appeal for more concerted efforts to make the scheme thrive better in the state.

The 2023 NYSC/Corps employers workshop was held simultaneously at the three NYSC zonal offices in the state: Obio/Akpor, Ahoada and Tai with a large turn out of corps employers and critical stakeholders.

The Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon. Sir Allwell Ihunda and the Chairman of Ogu/Bolo LGA, Hon. (Barr.) Vincent Nemieoboka were recognised at the occasion with an Award of Excellence during the event.

The NYSC Rivers State band and cultural troupe was on the ground to entertain guests and add colour to the event.
