Towards ensuring the security of lives and properties of Ebonyians, as part of his mandate, being the commander of the Ebonyi State Neighbourhood Watch, Commander Nwenyi Chibuoyi has called on Ebonyians to report strange faces in their communities to aid the fight against crime in the state.
According to reports, a recent security development in Anambra State has affected native doctors with unexplainable wealth, leading to the arrests of so many of them by the state government. Some who might be on the run would probably consider neighbouring states such as Enugu and Ebonyi, among others, as hideouts.
Addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital, Commander Chibuoyi, who appealed to the people to be security conscious and provide vital information to security agencies, said it would help them in fishing out criminal elements and strengthen the security of lives and properties.
He maintained that allowing or accommodating those runaway native doctors and others to dwell in the state would corrupt the youths into believing the practices which made them run away from their states and consequently lead to security threats which must not be tolerated.
“Anambra state improved their security system that affected native doctors, among others, and most of them that flew from there tried to use Ebonyi state as a hideout, but it couldn’t work. Once they came and tried to do their things here once or twice, we apprehended them.
“We observed that once you welcome such people, they will come in and start recruiting our youths, deceiving them with charms, so we tried to fight such a system so that they won’t come to Ebonyi State to corrupt our youths.
“We have tried to make the information go viral on social platforms; please, if you see any strange face in your community, let us know. Security agencies are not God, and it’s not possible for us to be everywhere. Information from the inhabitants of the state helps us a lot.” He said.
He, however, warned against those allegedly impersonating security personnel to carry out crime on unsuspecting members of the public to desist from the act, as the law enforcement agencies are watching them and the law will soon catch up with them.
