It is imperative to note that Ebonyi state have 13 LGA in the state with 3 senatorial zone comprising, Ebonyi South, Ebonyi North and Ebonyi Central.
Each of the local government have their authority, autonomous and political independence.
Out of the 13 LGA’s in Ebonyi State, only Ivo and Ezza South LGA that have one constituency each. The rest 11 LGA’s have 2 constituencies.
In Ebonyi South as a case study, there are 5 LGA’s, others in exception to Ivo LGA have two constituencies, the fact in issue and other relevant issues is, what is the criteria for creating a constituency? Ivo has it’s autonomy, political structure and independence with it’s population defined.
Afikpo North have 12 political wards with 2 constituencies, Afikpo South have 11 political wards with 2 constituencies, Onicha LGA have 12 political wards with 2 constituencies, Ohaozara LGA have 11 political wards with 2 constituencies whereas Ivo LGA have 11 political wards with just 1 constituency.
Ivo LGA is richly blessed and endowed with natural resources and contributes greatly in Ebonyi state IGR, population wise Ivo LGA is also large having boundaries with IMO, Enugu and Abia States respectively.
Logically, Afikpo South, Ohaozara and Ivo LGA have equal strength of 11 political wards with 2 constituencies except Ivo LGA with one political ward. It’s a political injustice and unfairness and call for a redress in our legislative houses including Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Similarly, Ngwogwo ward in Ivo LGA is one of the largest ward comprising 3 big communities of Amaeke, Amaokwe and Ngwogwo communities, the implications of this aliment is that before a community in this ward will produce a counselor, it will take average of 6 years, likewise Ogidi/Ihenta ward in Akaeze community in Ivo LGA ought to have separate wards.
I therefore, advocate for creation of additional constituency and political wards in Ivo LGA to equate her counterparts in Ebonyi South for the sake of equity and fairness, National Assembly and Ebonyi State House of Assembly and INEC look into this matter in it’s merit.
Ivo LGA is made of up of two big villages and other extractions. There are 17 communities in Ishiagu and 6 communities in Akaeze village and election into State House of Assembly is shared or zoned proportional, whereas other LGA in Ebonyi South have station leadership and election into the EBHA in their village without rotation.
I appeal to the necessary authority responsible in facilitating this process to step up.
“Equity does not aid the indolent…….” And Equity does that which ought to be done”
Ivo LGA is our home and deserves the best……
