The Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide has pledged to support the newly inaugurated local government area chairmen in Ebonyi to actualise their mandates towards the people.
The state chapter of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group made the declaration in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Anya Okorie on behalf of its President, Dr Peter Mbam.
The statement which was made available to newsmen in Abakaliki indicated the group’s resolve to collaborate with the council’s leadership in providing democratic dividends at the grassroots.
“We are proud of the process which led to your emergence and which is in line with democratic tenets.
“It is our firm belief that the trust which the people have in you by casting their votes in your favour will be reciprocated.
The association in the statement, noted that it had gone through the chairmen’s records and discovered that they were persons of honour and integrity.
“We have no doubt that you will deliver satisfactory on your new mandates and replicating the governor’s strides in your areas.
It would be recalled that the 13 council chairmen and 171 councillors, all of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were inaugurated by Governor David Umahi on September.1 in Abakaliki.
A federal high court sitting in Abakaliki had on August 25, nullified the elections which brought the officers to power for contravening relevant provisions of the electoral act.
The Ebonyi government however, announced on August. 30, that it had obtained an ex-parte order from a state high court to go on with the inauguration.
