The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ebonyi State has charged Corps members with sustaining the spirit of patriotism, hard work as well as resilience in the course of their one year of compulsory service to the Nation in the State.
The State Coordinator, Mrs. Bamai Mercy, made this known during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch C stream 1 orientation course at the NYSC permanent site, Old McGregor college, Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State.
Eye witness News learned that a total of 1051 Corps members of the 2022 Batch C stream 1, made of 475 males and 576 females, Tuesday received posting letters to their various places of primary assignment sequel to the 3 weeks orientation course.
Mrs. Bamai, who commended their patriotism as well as composure during the orientation exercise urged the Corps members to contribute their quota towards the development of the State and the Nation.
“As you begin the next phase of the Service Year, I urge you to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work, and resilience that you imbibed during the Orientation Course.
“It is my ardent hope that you will strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of our fatherland“. Bamai said.
She emphasized the need for them to abide by the NYSC oath of allegiance and accept their postings in good faith while enjoining them to perform their duties with diligence as well as to be guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws as Well as workplace rules and regulations”.
The State coordinator maintained that Corps members should respect the culture and traditions of their host communities and avoid participation in local politics.
Mrs. Bamai also pointed out vital programs of the NYSC which promote National Unity and enhanced productivity among the youth, including the Community Development Service (CDS), and Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED).
On Community Development Services (CDS);
She said, “I enjoin you to undertake personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that will help to uplift the living standard of the people of your host communities”.
On Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED)
Mrs. Bamai noted that she received impressive reports of participation during the orientation exercise and encouraged them to avail themselves of post-camp training to be empowered for self-reliance.
“I encourage you to build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training as this will go a long way in empowering you for self-reliance”. she said.
She called on the Corps members to be security conscious and avoid indulgence in activities that would jeopardize the unity of the Nation.
Mrs. Bamai commended the Federal Government, State, and traditional rulers as well as Corps employees for their various contributions to the success of the NYSC.
