The Governor of Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria, Mr Francis Nwifuru has renovated and commissioned a 200 capacity male hostel in NYSC permanent Orientation Camp Afikpo which was destroyed by inferno recently.
The Governor who was represented by the State Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, Mr Richard Idike performed the commissioning after the Swearing in Ceremony of Batch ‘A’ stream ‘II’ corps members at the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp at Old Macgregor College Afikpo Local Government Area of the State.
Nwifuru renovated and expanded the hostel after the inferno from 100 capacity to 200 capacity just to make Corps members comfortable.
He assure the Corps Members of National Youth Service Corps NYSC , camping in the State of a hitch free Orientation Course.
Nwifuru said he has no doubt therefore that you will record a hitch free orientation and
rewarding service year in Ebonyi State.
He urged the Corps members to uphold the National Unity, Peace co-exist to achiee this common goal irrespective of our cultural backgrounds.
Moreso, he further urged them to work as team to forge ahead. “Every element of nepotism,corruption,tribalism and ethnicity must be removed from among us as a nation so as to make the desired progress”
“My beloved compatriots, the Scheme which you are today inducted into has over the years served as a veritable instrument of national development and a strong bond that binds together our multifarious ethnic nationalities into one people, in view of this all-important role of the Scheme, the expectations arr enormous as you are duty bound to build on the enviable achievements of your predecessors whose patriotic efforts have sustained the noble NYSC scheme and our nation. The best of your ability is therefore, desirable during this singular opportunity you have to serve the nation in whatever location you may be posted to serve”. He said.
He assured them of continuous support and security to wherever you may be posted to.
On her part, the NYSC State Coordinator Mrs Oladeinde Foluke said scheme was established by decree (now act) NO 24 of 22nd May, 1973, in furtherance to the Federal Government post war policy realizing the much needed National unity and integration among all the tribes of Nigeria.
“To achieve this, the service has been carefully planned and segmented into four cardinal programmes namely: Orientation, Primary assignment, Community Development Service (CDS),and the winding-up and passing out”. She added.
Oladeinde said three-week long orientation exercise, which is regimented, is packaged to instill in the corps members the disciplined mind and sense of self-reliance needed to face the challenges ahead during and after the service year.
“It is on this note that I urge you to take every aspect of the orientation course very seriously,especially the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme, so that you can be trained on different skills.
Prospective Gentlemen corps members, let me emphasize that the camp is highly regimented and no act of indiscipline of any sort will be tolerated. Ensure you read the NYSC Hand books issued to you for better understanding of our activities here on camp and every aspect of the service year,so as to be well informed.”. Oladeinde added.
At the end of the registration exercise, a total of 1574 were registered, made up of 774 Male, 800 Female and she was happy to report that, since their arrival, they have been peaceful and orderly in their conduct,as well as adapting to the regimentation of the camp.

The highlights of the event was the swearing in of the Corps Members by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Elvis Ngene, Represented by Justice Nicholas Nwode.
