The National Population Commission (NPC), has engaged media stakeholders in Ebonyi on capacity building and effective reporting, ahead of the census.
Mr Darlington Okereke, Federal Commissioner of NPC in the state, in his keynote address at the one-day capacity-building workshop for journalists in the state, said the commission is prepared to conduct accurate head count for the nation.
Okereke, who stated this yesterday in Abakaliki, explained that the training workshop was for select media professionals in the state to equip them on census process.
He disclosed that most areas in the state had been fully demarcated using modern technology.
The Commissioner urged the media to deepen its reportage on the census process as well as mobilize the citizenry by getting the people involved.”
“Ensure that you report accurate data. Do away with sentiments of any kind in your reportage so as not to obliterate the success of the exercise.
“I commend you in all support so far at ensuring that the nation has the most accurate and acceptable census in the country,” he added.
It reports that the workshop featured five-paper presentations, including History of Population Census in Nigeria, and How to Generate Media Contents for the census amongst others.
Mrs Julia Manyike, a Director in NPC, Ebonyi commended the media support to the Commission and urged to always report positively on census activities.
Collaborating, Mr Chima Titus, Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), said the it would continue to support NPC at ensuring that the nation succeed during the exercise.
“We will continue to do our campaign across communities in Ebonyi to educate the people on the need to be counted,” Titus added
