The National Association of Ebonyi State Students (NAESS) has elected new executive members in a successful election held in Abakaliki the State capital.
The exercise, which was conducted in the presence of security agencies saw comrade Collins Ogbonna emerge as the President-elect of the student body.
Chairman of the election committee, comrade Ignatius Okoro also announced the emergence of Chidi Onwe Angela as the Vice President Admin, Nwokwu Amarachi as Vice President on special duties, and Okeni Solomon as Director of Contact and Mobilization.
Others who emerged include Mr John Nnana as Director of programmes, Egwu Kinsley Chukwu, as Director of Socials as well as 26 senators across the 13 local government areas in the State.
The special assistant to the state Governor on student affairs, Comrade Joshua Nwafor noted the exercise as being transparent and urged the new leaders to align with the policies of the State Government to champion the course of good governance.
“I’m grateful to God for the conduct of this election, the convention came at a time that we needed it most because over ten years we have been struggling to have a leadership that would move the association to another level.
“This leadership would drive the process of scholarships award to our students across the 13 local government areas as well as to ensure that their bursaries are paid in due time”. Nwafor said.
He called on the students to support the program and policies of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, noting the Governor’s determination to improve the lives of the common people in the State through the People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
The President-elect, comrade Collins Ogbonna appreciated the State government for creating an enabling environment for the conduct of the exercise and pledged to work towards the welfare of all students in the State.
