The First Lady of Ebonyi State, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs Maudlin Uzoamaka Nwifuru and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons, Ebonyi State Taskforce Saturday commemorated World Day Against Human Trafficking with a road walk.
The event which was earlier flagged by the Governor’s wife last week, kicked off from Old Government, with stopovers in Ebonyi Hotels, Vanco, Abakpa Market and Police Headquarters Junctions.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, Mrs Nwifuru reiterated government’s commitment to end all forms of human trafficking, domestic servitude, child labour and abuses perpetrated against minors from Ebonyi State anywhere in the world.
“l don’t want any Ebonyi child to be trafficked. When you allow your child to be trafficked, some of them have their organs harvested, sold off to early marriages and are exposed to all forms of abuse.
“Some are flogged with iron and sharp pins
“We are determined to end all forms of abuse”, she said in Igbo language.
Barr Simon Offia, Zonal Director of NAPTIP speaking on behalf of the Director General, lauded the Governor’s wife for championing the call against the scourge.
Earlier, Mrs Bertha Offor the state Chairman emphasized the need for parents to raise their children and resist every pressure to be lured into the ugly trend.
The Rake reports that a representative of the State Judiciary, Mrs Faithvin Nwanchor Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development; state and non-state actors attended the road walk.
