The Wife of Ebonyi Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru has called on Academia’s and the state Government to collaborate towards eradicating fake news in the society.
Nwifuru made the call on Thursday, during a workshop organised by Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals (ASCPN) Ebonyi chapter and the state University in Abakaliki.
The lecture series with theme “Curbing online fake news in Nigeria” was organised at the University.
She said that fake news and information must be eradicated to reduce it effect on the society.
She described the theme as apted.
The First Lady, who received an award of humility by the association and the institution ,in recognition of her humanitarian services which had made lmpacts in lives of women and children in the state, expressed readiness to work with the group.
The governor’s wife while commending the association for the honor done to her, expressed satisfaction over significant impacts made in the institution.
“The workshop is very educative and commendable. And your choice of topic is timely, considering the destructive nature of fake news in society.
“I will like to call for collaboration between the government and the academia, in the fight against the trend to ensure it project the state in a good way to the society,” Nwifuru said.
She urged lecturers and students of the institution to join in the fight against Gender-based violence in their various communities to eliminate the development.
Earlier in their separate remarks, the acting Vice Chancellor Prof Eugene Nweke, and President of ASCPN, Prof Ifeyinwa Nsude expressed gratitude to the first lady for being a good alumna of the institutions.
