Mr Pius Nwankwor, Special Assistant on Sports to Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi on Saturday, says the ongoing Governor’s football competition in the state is avenue for talents hunt.
It reports that the competition featuring 13 teams from the 13 local government areas of the state kicked-off on July 29.
Nwankwor, who described Nwifuru as “football lover” said the competition is aimed at selecting best players, who would later form a formidable football team for the state.
According to him, the motive of the competition was to bring the youths together in order to take them off the street.
“We hope to pick the good players among them so, that we can be able to form a strong team for the state.
“You know, the Governor is a sports lover and I commend him for this move. Thank God, we have started in this form and the state will harness the good talents from the competition,” he added.
Nwankwor said sports is a recreative business, urging the youths to key into the football competition.
On the game between Ezza-South and Ikwo local government areas on Saturday at Pa Ngele Oruta stadium, Abakaliki, the Aide commend the players on talents displayed.
It reports that in the game, Ezza-South team beat the opponent 2-0.
Coach of Ezza-South team, Mr Kelvin Nwani thanked God for the outcome of the game, saying he was glad for his team winning in their first match.
On the tournament, he said that his was prepared to clinch the trophy at the end of the competition.
Coach Sunday Edah of Ikwo team also commended his team on their performance and expressed optimistic to win in their game.
