The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi has mobilized 1,023 personnel to ensure safety on Ebonyi roads during the nation’s independence celebration.
The State Sector Commander of Corps, CC Uche Chukwurah made the disclosure in Abakaliki while speaking on its readiness for the celebration.
Chukwurah said that the personnel consists of regular and special marshals complemented by members of the road safety clubs.
“We would also deploy about 10 patrol vehicles, one ambulance and one bike to guarantee safe travels for all road users before, during and after the celebration.
“Mobile courts would be fully operational to dispense justice to traffic violators as this forms part of strategies to ensure strict compliance.
She noted that the FRSC acting corps marshal mandated that various objectives be achieved during its special operations from Sept.25 to Oct.2.
“The objectives include: reduction in road crashes, fatalities and injuries, prompt response to road crashes victims and robust public enlightenment.
“We are also expected to speedily remove obstructions on highways, ensure free traffic flow on all critical corridors and increase FRSC presence on the highways during the period.
The sector commander enjoined the motoring public to ensure that their vehicle ‘wipers’, lights and tyres are in good conditions with the prevailing period of heavy rains.
“Drivers are equally admonished against using their phones while driving, excessive speeding and overloading.
“Drivers without driver licence, those with fake or expired ones and those driving against traffic should desist from such practices to avoid facing the wrath of the law.
“We enjoin motorists to cooperate with personnel of the corps and other security operatives to ensure free traffic flow during the celebration.
