The European Union-United Nation Spotlight Initiative and Women’s Aid Collective (WACOL), said it concluded plans to implement a five year Action Plan against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Ebonyi.
The implementation is also in partnership with the UNDP.
Prof Ngozi Ezeilo made this known in Abakaliki on Thursday at the end of a two day workshop on implementation of the national action plan and promotion of welfare of women and girls.
Ezeilo said the workshop was organized to train government and private individuals on the need to end all forms of violence against women and girls in the society.
“This is one of the activities in this quota on national action plan on ending violence against women and girls. I believe it will be replicated at the State level
“We intend to train different ministries, CSOs, government and private partners on the national action plan.
“We hope that when this plan is developed it would give the state a direction on how to go about implementation of activities towards ending all forms of violence against women,” she said.
The State Commissioner for women affairs, Mrs Chinwe Okah, who was represented by a Director in the Ministry, Mrs Mercelina Ibina, commended the organisers of the training.
Okah noted that the workshop would go a long wau to enlighten the stakeholders in the state towards ending violence against women and girls.
She said the State Government would continue to partner with the organisations and NGOs to implement the national action plan to protect women folks in the society.
One of the resource person, Mrs Helen Kalu decried the way women have so far been relegated in terms of decision making in the society.
Kalu noed that the national action plan would enable an all inclusive system where women would decide on issues towards their affairs in the country.
