“Empower Councillors To Domesticate Your Good Works” – LP Chieftain Advises Gov. Nwifuru

Labour Party Stakeholder advices Gov. Nwifuru to empower elected ward counselors in other to help domesticate his good achievements locally.

In statement by the party’s chieftain, Mr Innocent Igiri, stated that Governor Nwifuru is capable of changing the narratives in grassroots governance by ensuring that councillors needs are attended to.

“The reason why Governor Nwifuru is not doing well is not far fetched from his octave affinity with his predecessor Sen. Umahi.

“Affinity with a godfather who is more wealthy, powerful, connected, etc will definitely reduce your own potentialities.

“Take it or leave it, FON is not a no-brainer or a Dundee. But this affinity no matter what it offers to him is not for the good of his government. This is not to suggest a disrespect to his predecessor but a good distance enough.

“Some of you who are praise singers will be referring to what is happening in Rivers as a case study should the duo go apart. But you forgot that in all of these, Gov. Fubara has gained the love and support of majority of Rivers people.

“Put election in Rivers today between Fubara and Wike and see what I’m saying. The only mistake is that he lost the SHoA. Nevertheless, Fubara won’t lose the battle.

“As a Governor who wishes to serve the people well you don’t need this kind of affinity at all. Respect your predecessor, respect the President, but fight anything standing on the way to serving your people who elected you. They will love you the more for fighting for them.

“A lot of our people are not happy with what they have seen so far in this administration both in open and in secret. They are not happy over the decadence of things under a young man’s watch.

“This administration bought/gifted SUVs worth billions to National Assembly members from the state for reasons undisclosed. But elected ward counselors in this government are still up till now not having a single mobility. No bike. No Keke. No vehicle. I don’t think they even have monthly allocation or office allowance. Etc…

“Counselors at our various community wards who were elected just like the LGA Chairmen to be the very anchor persons in terms of taking development down to rural communities are so far, as at the time of this article being sidelined by this administration. Allocations are coming regularly to the LGA Chairmen then some percentage to DC Coordinators who were appointed. But elected counselors gets zero. Is that what a vibrant leader should offer in his first term in office??

The only thing counselors got so far in this administration is agricultural training and a promise of N5m empowerment which is taking ages to be fulfilled.

“Let me therefore use this medium to continue to encourage our dear Governor to rejig the system; to look at the side of the counselors; to not allow anyone distract him from seeing the counselors as his local eye; and to get them seriously involved in his administration in other to deliver on his promises and save our state from being ridiculed as a failure in the midst of other states.”
