Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Mr Osita Kalu Ugorgi has lambasted the rulling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State over alleged misguided utterances made by the state chairman, Mr Stanley Okoro Emegha.
Ugorgi also described Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii’s Candidature as the party’s standard bearer a sign of hope for all Ebonyi people.
This came following supreme court’s judgment in favor of Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii and his subsequent declaration as the authentic governorship candidate of the PDP come 2023 general elections.
He said the court’s judgment allegedly brought nightmare to the APC in the State which explains why there has been counter reactions from the party quarters, especially as it regards to the issue of equity and credibility.
“The Supreme Court Judgement That Affirmed Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate Ebonyi State for the 2023 General Election is now the greatest nightmare of the ruling party APC.
“Since the news broke, the leadership of APC in the state have been running from pillar to poles making statements principally aimed at consoling their very few salaried followers”. Ugorgi said.
He pointed out saying, “One of such statements was by Stanley Okoro Emegha APC State Chairman while briefing journalist in Abakaliki Ebonyi State capital city,
“he said that the emergence of our PDP Governorship Candidate Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii is against equity and credibility – he is now crying over the internal affairs of the PDP, which shows his myopic understanding in the rudimentary politics of the state which now yearns for a change of the status quo, for a government with human face” it stated.
He maintained that zoning doesn’t equate competence and a people oriented leadership, neither does it connote the enthronement of a mediocre and violence driven candidate.
“Zoning is about equity and when the equities are equal, the first in time prevails. All zones in Ebonyi State have had a short at the number one office, so only an illiterate will be shouting zoning, equity.” He explained.
He lamented the lack of ease in doing business activities in the state due to high taxation as well as the hardship upon civil servants and attributed it to bad leadership of the APC.
“Ebonyi APC has inflicted a lot of injuries and poverty on the people with their multi taxation, non payment of worker’s standard minimum wages, non payment of retirees gratuity and pensions and undemocratic ways of governance.
“Zero recruitment into the State civil service, zero promotion in the state civil service. Family driven government without human face.
“Successfully placing Ebonyi as the poorest state in the South East with over 76% poverty rate. These are the real issue for the 2023 election, not zoning. Unfortunately, their candidate does not even understand any of these issues and thus incapable of addressing any”.
He expressed confidence that the State belongs to the PDP and believes that the people would raise up with thier votes and called on them to support the candidacy of Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii for capacity, capability and competence.
“PDP remains the people’s party in Ebonyi State and has been voted for massively by the people since the return of democracy in 1999.
“The affirmation of Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate for Ebonyi State is a sign of hope to the ordinary Ebonyian who has been battered and shattered by the ruling party APC in the state”. he added.
