The chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Ebonyi State chapter, Comrade Francis Egwu Elechi has urged teachers in the State to work hard towards attaining thier promotions and other benefits.

Egwu gave the charge at the ongoing verification exercise being conducted for junior secondary and primary school teachers in the State.

He said the essence of the verification is to enable the State Government identify with the total number of teachers in order to promote as well as employ more hands into the profession.

Government wants to know the actual number of teachers in thier payroll and this is because sometime ago the NUT requested for additional teachers in the system and the government said for them to add teachers they need to know the number they have.

“We have equally requested for the promotion of teachers which they have done, from 2019 to 2021, and now they want to verify the number of persons they are promoting”. Egwu said.

He noted that the verification would enable the State Government to know the number of vacancies to be filled and expressed confidence that it would be effected.

The chairman said teachers should work hard to earn thier promotion as at due, and called on them to sit up to thier responsibilities.

I have to tell the teachers to please sit up and do thier work while on expectations, let us contribute our best so that we could join in the promotion, and just recently the State Government empowered some people in the State which our teachers were also carried along”. he added.
