The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Mary Nwifuru yesterday commended the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ebonyi State command for their resilience in rescuing teenagers essentially girls from traffickers.
Mrs Nwifuru gave the commendation when officers from the NIS state command paid a courtesy visit to her office in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The governor’s wife who assumed that her pet project would soon be launched, also charged the state Immigration command to be vigilant at the various borders of the state.
She also encouraged them not to hesitate to call on her where necessary on issues that will mould the lives of young people better.
The NIS Comptroller, Mrs Catherine Uzzi said that they had come to intimate her with their activities in fighting child trafficking, child rape, forced labour and related issues in the society.
According to her, human trafficking starting spring it’s ugly faces in the early 80s.
“And that was as a result of dwindling economy of the country which is still visible till date,”she said.
Mrs Uzzi expressed their readiness to clamp down on the agents that are used to traffick children.
“And we have made it our duty to always check on hotels, motor parks and other public places where they hide to deceive the young girls and boys,”she explained. END//
