The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Ebonyi chapter, Comrade Francis Egwu says the State Government has implemented the promotion of teachers in secondary schools and are currently doing a lot to improve teachers welfare.
Egwu stated while reacting to alleged extortion of teachers in the State for promotion, by suspected individuals said to be officials of the union from Abuja.
He explained that the leadership of the union in the State is not aware of such individuals and warned teachers to resist attempt to be defrauded.
“In respect of people coming from Abuja to extort money from teachers to sign thier promotion letters, I don’t know whether the people involved are federal teachers,
“Because for any state teacher,no federal staff has anything to do with thier promotion because right now as we speak, the government of Ebonyi State has implemented the promotion of all the teachers in secondary school levels and we never heard anything.” he said.
He noted that signing of Gen-35 are carried out at the Universal Basic Education headquarters and said all teachers in the State are aware.
“If anything like that happens, let the person come with proves for us to make case because it’s derogatory to our government which has been doing a lot to address the issue of promotion in the State”. Egwu added.
