The newly sworn-in Coordinator of the Edda West Development Center, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Hon. Jackline Onwubuike Ukpai, has pledged to tackle insecurity in his jurisdiction as well as curb restiveness among the young people.

Ukpai, who made the pledge in an interview with journalists during his swearing-in ceremony, which was held in Abakaliki, the state capital, hinted that he would mobilize his people at the grassroots level to ensure they live peacefully in order to feel the impact of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration.

“I will make sure that I curtail all forms of violence and all sorts of vices, such as cultism, to ensure that there is absolute peace within the development center.” He said.

The coordinator, who emphasized the need to create a synergy with the security agencies, said he would ensure that Governor Nwifuru’s directives on peaceful coexistence among the people are adhered to and vowed to bring defaulters to face the weight of the law.

He thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve his people, saying that his appointment was a call to duty, and he promised to run a government of inclusiveness where everyone is part of the governance of the Development Center.

While assessing the governor’s administration thus far, he commended him for adhering to his campaign manifesto, which was centered on the people’s charter of needs, through the payment of backlogs of arrears of gratuity to all retired civil servants since 1996.

He praised the governor for increasing the salaries of civil servants with an additional 10 thousand naira to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies, the payment of 100 thousand naira in Christmas bonuses, the approval of a 2km road for all communities in the state, and the recruitment of 139 medical staff with the employment of 1000 civil servants.

“His Excellency has empowered street hawkers of Ebonyi state origin who were drawn from the major cities across the country with two million naira each to make them useful in their lives, which is a commendable act.” He said.

He urged the people to support the state government at all levels in order to sustain the pace of development in accordance with the governor’s people’s charter of needs agenda.
