The appeal Court in Abuja has upheld the candidacy of Governor David Umahi as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer ahead of the 2023 Senatorial elections in Ebonyi South.
It reports that the Court had set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court and all the orders it made, and maintained that the court was wrong when it upheld Ann Agomeze’s Counter-affidavit and failed to uphold the primary election of 9th June, 2022. (Which produced Umahi as the authentic senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi South)
The Special assistant to the Governor on media and strategy, Mr Chooks Oko,who gave the disclosure in a press statement, described the development as the will of God and thanked the people of Ebonyi South for thier immense show of support to the Governor.
“Governor David Umahi has described his journey to the Nigerian senate as the will of God and expresses gratitude to God for the just delivered judgement of the Abuja Court of Appeal which confirmed him as the authentic flag bearer for Ebonyi South Senatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. He said.
Earlier on, the State’s Commissioner for information, Barrister Uchenna Orji, noted that Umahi’s victory was well deserved and cited the section of the constitution backing it.
“Governor Umahi was nominated as the APC Senatorial candidate, as the nomination was never challenged by anybody within 14 days as prescribed by section 285(9) of the 1999 Constitution.
“The court proceeded to grant all the reliefs sought by Governor Umahi and the APC in the trial court”.
Consequently, Mr Chooks Oko, commended the Nigerian judiciary for upholding democratic values.
“With the judgement, the Court has once again, asserted its inviolate position as the hope of all seekers after justice.
Oko further revealed that the Governor had shown willingness to strengthen his vow to offer good senatorial representation to the people of Ebonyi South as well as continue to work for the interest of the people in southeast Nigeria.
