A new leadership has emerged at the Ekeaba Foodstuff Development Limited, Abakaliki in Ebonyi State, following a peaceful election conducted in the presence of security agencies and media organizations, after seven years of power tussle.
Those who made the new executives include Mr Innocent Agu as chairman, Obioma Chukwudi, vice chairman, Igwe Maximus as secretary, Okike Joseph Onu, assistant secretary, Anayochi Nwankwo, treasurer, Chief Aleke Sampson, financial secretary, and Jacob C Okorie as public relations officer respectively.
Speaking on the outcome of the election, the newly elected chairman, Mr Innocent Agu commended the election committee for ensuring a peaceful and transparent election and noted the State Government’s interventions towards attaining its success.
He pledged to work for the interest of all traders at the Ekeaba Foodstuff market in line with the constitution of the union while calling on his opponents to join hands with him to move the union forward.
“I thank the election committee and Ebonyi State Government for this peaceful election, this victory is for all of us here and I will work to ensure that everyone is happy and going about his or her business to the glory of God”. Agu said.
The newly elected vice chairman, Mr Obioma Chukwudi said the election was peaceful and credible while commending Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his swift interventions to ensure that peace is restored to the union.
“I want to announce to you that the election was peaceful, credible, and fair, all the contestants were given an enabling atmosphere to contest, we want to thank our Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, he is a peacemaker.
“Yesterday when we came here for the election, we had interruptions from security agencies from state department, police, they interrupted the election, and when the news got to his office, he called us to wait and meet the stakeholders and I want to assure you that we have met and resolved to conduct the election“. he said.
The Ekeaba Foodstuff Development Limited before now had been in a leadership tussle that lasted for seven years, until a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, presided by Justice H. A Nganjiwa dismissed the parties involved and ordered a fresh election to be conducted 15 days before its sequel.
