Nwazufu Chizoba, a 27-year-old victim of elephantiasis, has called on the government and good people of Ebonyi State seeking financial assistance to facilitate surgery on his two legs affected by the disease for eleven years.
The correspondent gathered that the victim hails from the Ete-izzi Emeagu community in the Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking with Eye Witness News, Chizoba said that after medical examination, he was charged the sum of four hundred thousand naira on each leg for the surgery (which is a whole sum of eight hundred thousand naira), which he has unfortunately not been able to secure.
“I am begging the chairman of Ebonyi Local Government, Prince Chinedu Uburu, to help me with this condition.” He said.
Chizoba, who appealed to well-meaning Nigerians as well as Ebonyians to empathise with him in his current situation, noted the pains and stigma associated with his illness and would not take any assistance for granted, as facilitating the surgery and getting back into wellness again after eleven years has always been his desire.
According to experts, Elephantiasis is an infectious disease that spreads through mosquito bites. It can lead to fluid retention and, in some cases, disfigurement. Elephantiasis is common in many tropical and sub-tropical climates.
